Learn about Wimbi House's authentic Swahili properties in Lamu Island. Discover our philosophy of traditional materials, sustainable practices, and local hospitality.
Wimbi House is a collection of two exceptional Swahili properties in Shela village, Lamu Island — one of the Indian Ocean's most extraordinary destinations.
We believe the best travel experiences come from staying in genuinely special places, cared for by people who love them. Both our properties have been designed and built with obsessive attention to material authenticity — locally sourced coral stone, hand-carved wooden doors and screens, neru plaster finished by craftspeople who have practiced their art for generations.
Our Philosophy
Authentic materials, sustainable practices
Every element has been chosen to honor Lamu's architectural heritage while providing modern comfort. Our solar power systems generate 99% of our electricity from the abundant African sun, our water comes from deep boreholes, and our waste management systems protect the delicate island ecosystem.
The Team
Local expertise, genuine hospitality
Our staff are all from Lamu, bringing generations of island knowledge and genuine warmth to your stay. From our chef who sources ingredients from local fishermen and organic gardens, to our boat captains who know every secret cove and sandbank, you'll experience the island through the eyes of people who call it home.
