Lamu moves at its own pace and we recommend you try to get into the ‘pole pole’ spirit of it. But we do have some recommendations we think aren’t worth missing:
Dhow Sailing
Step aboard a hand built dhow and follow the trade winds that have shaped this coastline for centuries. Full-day sailing through open channels and hidden waterways, with stops for snorkeling and picnics on sandbanks. Or sail for sunset through mangrove channels, one of the few places in East Africa where you can see the sun set over the ocean.
Fishing, Deep Sea or in the Channel
Lamu’s waters are famous on the East African coast for their rich and bountiful waters. Spend a day or few hours with some of Lamu’s best fishermen and see if you can catch your lunch!
Cultural Tours
Our local guides know Lamu's streets, craftspeople, and family kitchens well. Walking tours through the old town, visits to traditional artisans, and Swahili meals cooked from recipes that haven't changed in generations.
Shela Beach
Not far from Wimbi House is Shela's pristine 12km beach. Enjoy sunrise or sunset walks completely uninterrupted except for maybe the odd donkey.

Lamu has long been known as a place to relax and unwind and Lamu is full of wonderful yoga teachers, masseuses and healers — we can help arrange people to come to the house for whatever your needs.
